My Work
I feel my work, by comparison, seems absurdly direct with its fixation on being honest. What is "art" and why is it that we let "art" become so elusive, so elite, so arrogant and so full of it's self? I don't ever want to fall prey to what society dictates, rather I'd prefer to be a voice for art for the real, for the norm and for all. An artist formulates or expresses personal, global, and social events, emotions, and experiences. I do what I feel and I let the process of the art be my guide. I create through the experiences, feelings, and events of life and I prefer not to have that tainted or skewed by what convention, society, or popularity dictates.
My work represents time and decisions made in mine/ones life. Each color, each texture, each size and each shape is a direct reflection of a feeling, a desire, a sense, a dream, etc. My expressions are with the aim of readying the viewer to some purpose; an improving, an awaking, a consolation and/or a remedy of a condition. I feel for art to be real, it needs to be pure. For my art to be pure, it needs to be driven by what I as a unique individual experience, perceive and am effected by. Now, if one takes a look at themselves and/or events around them, then one can relate. I feel for art to be honest it must be personal. I would like each person who sees and experiences my work to be able to find something within themselves within my work for them to have back again for themselves.
"The Process"
In my "process" I see each nail (for an example) to be: a day, an event, or words... one perfectly placed, or one spoken in haste that you can never take back, etc.... Each is placed with the guiding force of emotion and expression, and in the interest of evoking and or sharing my feelings in a pure and honest way.
In "The Process" series, I chose beeswax and nails. The "Process" can be defined in both of the mediums I use. Both constitute and represent change as well as and infinite and ongoing "process" within themselves. The "process" of honeybees making wax for their existence and survival which in it's self is a process. The reality of the honeybee in our ecosystem and agriculture; hence our survival which is a process. The "process" of iron and steel melted and molded as I melt and mold wax which both hold infinite shapes and potential. The "process" of all that can be created, built, and constructed with the functional use of a tool as simple as a nail. The complete and utter possibility within the materials I use to be all inclusively transformed into a new and extremely different reality under the right circumstances, thereby taking the process full circle in it's own and infinite process.
